Moving Military Families during International Conflict

President Barack Obama proposed a new $1 billion fund to bolster European security and reassure newer U.S. allies worried by what they see as a renewal of Russian aggression.  The U.S. government has also spent more than $200 billion on private contractors over the past decade.

Soldiers marines boarding a ship in a simulated assaultSo where and what will all this money be spent on? Details have not been announced but with the Iraq war over and the American presence waning in Afghanistan, U.S. security contractors are looking for new prospects like the Ukraine, Poland and surrounding Eastern European areas.

In recent years, private contracting companies offer the US government services like program management, security, training, and peace keeping as well as ground support for troops including logistics services as well as catering.

Eastern Europe also has economic interests of giant corporations – from Cargill to Chevron – which see the area as a potential gold mine for profits from agricultural and energy exploitation.

So in my opinion it’s not going to be long before you see many overseas job opportunities advertised to Americans for lucrative paying work in Eastern Europe.  What does all this have to do with UPakWeShip you are probably thinking?  Well the military and big corps like Chevron and Bechtel might take care or their personnel’s international moving expenses but many others hired through smaller companies will be left to fend for themselves or be given a $ allowance to take care of all the relocation expenses. If you get an allowance DO NOT blow it on a first class ticket and drink Martinis all the way over! Spend you allowance wisely, you might need a hotel before your early morning flight the next day, car rental for a week as you sold your car, obviously the airfare, may be some new clothes, leaving party expenses and of course your international moving expense. Having personally done a tour in the Middle East on single status, you can call me a room snob if you like, but having my own pictures, bedding, towels, stereo and my piano keyboard in my room was a godsend and helps you no end when feeling homesick. If married or married and have kids it’s a no brainer, you need your stuff! Toys, pots n pans, bikes, extra clothes, dvd’s and many electronic games and gadgets will help to make home from home.
